From traditional to contemporary chic, few things remain the same in this living room retreat (even the artwork above the fireplace was reframed!). The windows were replaced and framed out to accommodate the new stripped valance that coordinates with the bolster pillows on the new chaise sofa. The fireplace surround was given a facelift with a bronze metallic plaster finish. The cove ceilings had crown moulding added and the tufted slipper chairs compliment the chrome side tables beautifully.

The structural elements
were beautiful in this family room; it just needed some warmth and
comfortable furnishings so this vacation home could truly be called a
retreat. Green accents pulled from the adjacent kitchen granite
countertop were used throughout while gold and red tones become the basis
for this room’s color palette. We used traditional styling coupled
with some Mediterranean influences to give the client’s the casual
California style they desired.

A living
room reminiscent of a lovely spring garden is the inspiration I choose for
this transformation. Luxurious fabrics in pale greens, creams and a
punch of peach bring this room alive with vibrancy. The embroidered
silk draperies, marble-topped cocktail table and embossed Florentine carpet
offer subtle elegance to this inviting space. The pebble fireplace
surround and hearth were replaced using beautiful hand-crafted artisan tiles
~ simply chic and absolutely elegant!

These beautiful convex
windows required an equally beautiful family room to showcase them. So
we dressed the windows in luxurious embroidered silk and hung them with
medallion holdbacks to create an elegant valance swag which perfectly frames
the space. The sofas are extra deep and finished with many pillows to
make for comfortable conversations or tantalizing television viewing.
The rich burgundies, warm golds and soothing green hues, coupled with the
soft chenilles and fringe, the graceful lines of the sofas and wrought iron
tables, all work harmoniously to give the space the warmth and elegance the
homeowner was after.

The open layout was great for entertaining but
the space lacked warmth and comfort. We extended the countertop bar to
seat four and replaced the white tile with beautiful granite. The
entertainment niche received a custom design to house a plasma television,
audio/visual equipment and some display items as well. The new space
includes crown and base molding, custom window treatments and a metallic
paint treatment over the fireplace to compliment the natural granite.

In this room we replaced
the royal blue carpet with maple engineered wood floors and added a
diamond-patterned sisal rug to pull together the seating group. We had
wrought iron wall sconces wired for some ambient light along with a floor
torchiere and a new glass shade chandelier. The back wall was finished
with a bronze metallic paint to give it a faux suede effect to compliment
the club chair, dining room chair upholstery and silk draperies.

To update this space from traditional to have a contemporary flair, we
replaced the carpet and opted for this easy-care concrete solution which
features a "ribbon" of color from the front door through to the kitchen. A
3-step paint finish was applied to the walls to create the warm gilded gold
look the client wanted. We replaced the traditional window treatments with
clean, contemporary roman shades in a neutral fabric to contrast with the
new walls. Traditional lighting with crystal accents was brought in
to compliment the custom furniture to create a cozy, contemporary living
space.

The client
desired a “boys club” feel for the living room – someplace to play games,
watch TV and kick up your feet and relax… with a bit of elegance.
Deep, supple leather chairs and ottoman with nail head details, sisal rug,
dark walnut stained armoire and valances provide the masculine feel while
the blue and brown drapery panels, pillows and lamps provide the feminine
touch to make it just right.

Using inspiration from
the gold Venetian plaster walls, we choose two beautifully tailored chairs
in red and gold chenille while contrasting the walls with a punch of red
with the sofa. The arched window was highlighted with Italian silk
stripped drapery panels to add a bit of drama and whimsy to the formal
living room.

Furniture from a former home wasn’t working for the homeowner’s new family
room. We added gold and sage tones to the walls and used complimentary
fabrics for the window valances, parsons dining chairs and other upholstery
pieces in the room. New lighting and some accessories added the final
touches (kitty loves the new family room too!
